About the Opportunity
Senior and Disability Action is a grassroots nonprofit organization focused on mobilizing, organizing, and educating seniors and individuals with disabilities. We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization into its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate should be located in the Bay Area and be prepared to work in a hybrid environment from our office for part of the week. Our next CEO will enhance the senior and disability advocacy movement by:
- Empowering staff to amplify mission impact
- Strengthening partnerships with coalitions, elected officials, and governmental bodies
- Maintaining a robust funding base and overseeing financial operations
- Encouraging organizational development
- Utilizing a collaborative approach to establish a vision for the organization and the movement
Candidate Profile
- Compassionate, innovative, and humble leader with an understanding of the needs and experiences of seniors and individuals with disabilities
- Proven commitment to disability, senior, racial, and economic justice, with personal and/or professional experience in these communities, and alignment with our mission and values
- Over 5 years of experience in financial management, including budget creation, expense monitoring, and adherence to financial protocols
- Over 5 years of management experience, including staff oversight, team development, and collaborative problem-solving
- Experience in grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, legislation, and coalition-building
- Knowledge of HR practices and government contracts, with a commitment to accessibility and safety policies
Essential Skills, Attributes, and Professional Experience
The ideal candidate should share a commitment to community organizing as a fundamental strategy for empowering senior and disability communities and have experience advocating for public interest initiatives within local government. Strong analytical and negotiation skills are essential for understanding the intersections of disability, senior, economic, and racial justice. This role requires a dynamic work ethic, facilitation, and leadership abilities, a commitment to diplomacy, and readiness to embrace our collaborative culture where everyone's leadership is valued.
Community Engagement
- Ensure the organization has adequate funding by applying for grants and implementing fundraising strategies such as annual appeals and donor events
- Build and maintain relationships with private funders, collaborating with our Digital Outreach Specialist to develop and execute a communication strategy for the community and public regarding our activities, programs, and objectives
- Ensure staff cultivate strong relationships and cooperative partnerships with community organizations, representing our programs and perspectives to external stakeholders
Operations and Organizational Effectiveness
- Foster a creative, collaborative workplace culture focused on member experience and professional growth to attract, retain, and motivate a diverse, high-quality staff
- Provide guidance, training, and support to staff and members to develop programs, strategic direction, and policies, ensuring effective implementation
- Oversee all HR operations and policies, including recruitment and retention of personnel, as well as supervision and performance evaluations for staff
- Maintain sound financial and administrative practices for compliance, organizational efficiency, cash management, and annual budgeting
- Manage local government contracts with clear communication to ensure compliance and satisfactory audits
- Ensure the Board has appropriate visibility into the organization to be effective stewards of our mission
