Position Overview

The Organ Recovery Coordinator I at Atrium Health plays a pivotal role in managing the donor process and ensuring the successful recovery of organs for transplantation or research purposes. Under the guidance of the Organ Services Manager, this position is integral to the mission of enhancing lives through organ donation.

Key Responsibilities


As an Organ Recovery Coordinator I, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough evaluations of potential organ donors and managing the entire donor process.
  • Coordinating with Transplant Centers and other Organ Procurement Organizations to facilitate organ placement and recovery.
  • Providing support in obtaining consent for organ donation and delivering educational presentations to both professional and public audiences.
Essential Duties


In this role, you will:

  • Adhere to the policies and regulations set forth by relevant health organizations and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate effectively with hospital staff, physicians, and surgical teams to assess and manage potential organ donors.
  • Utilize your knowledge of critical care to assist in the referral and recovery processes.

It is essential to demonstrate compassion and professionalism when interacting with grieving families and healthcare staff. You will also be responsible for making informed decisions regarding complex cases and escalating issues as necessary.

Quality Assurance


Active participation in quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement is expected. You will follow the directives of the Administrator on Call and/or Medical Director to ensure optimal donor management and completion of organ donation responsibilities.

Community Engagement


Conducting outreach and in-service training in hospitals to promote awareness of potential organ donation opportunities is a key aspect of this role.

Physical Requirements


This position requires the ability to travel over 100 miles and adapt to various hospital environments. Candidates should be prepared for irregular hours, including extended shifts and on-call responsibilities.

Physical capabilities include lifting up to 50 pounds and maintaining good visual acuity and manual dexterity. A personal vehicle is necessary for business-related travel.

Qualifications


To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A current RN license, or
  • A minimum of three years' experience as a Paramedic, or
  • Three years' experience in an Organ Procurement Organization with a focus on organ recovery or preservation.

Certification as a Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) is preferred.
