Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced culinary supervisor to join our esteemed team at the New York Botanical Garden. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to share your culinary expertise while overseeing and actively engaging in the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of a variety of dishes including salads, soups, seafood, meats, vegetables, desserts, and more.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop menus that align with consumer preferences, nutritional requirements, and budgetary guidelines; engage in menu planning activities including determining purchasing specifications, product testing, and recipe development.
  • Ensure adherence to production, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Lead and participate in the daily preparation of both standard and gourmet food items.
  • Assess the quality of raw ingredients and guarantee the excellence of finished dishes.
  • Conduct inspections of assigned areas to evaluate food preparation quality, presentation, and cleanliness of production and service environments.
  • Implement culinary production for special events, themed occasions, and catered services.
  • Oversee and assist in the preparation and presentation of menu items for special events.
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls for food, supplies, and equipment; interview, select, train, and evaluate kitchen staff.
  • Manage revenue and expenses to meet financial objectives.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven culinary skills in institutional, hotel, or restaurant settings, particularly in large-scale food production.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in culinary management.
  • Strong leadership abilities and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A successful history of managing costs and adhering to annual budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in institutional management, nutrition, dietetics, or hotel and restaurant management, or equivalent education and experience.
