Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced culinary supervisor to join our team at the New York Botanical Garden. In this role, you will have the opportunity to share your culinary expertise while overseeing and actively participating in the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of a variety of dishes including salads, soups, fish, meats, vegetables, desserts, and more.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop menus that align with consumer preferences, nutritional requirements, and budgetary guidelines; engage in menu planning activities including determining purchasing specifications, product testing, and recipe development.
  • Ensure adherence to production, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Lead and engage in the daily preparation of both standard and gourmet food items.
  • Assess the quality of raw ingredients and guarantee the excellence of the final dishes.
  • Conduct inspections of assigned areas to monitor food preparation quality, presentation, and cleanliness of production and service environments.
  • Execute culinary production for special events, unique offerings, and catered occasions.
  • Oversee and assist in the preparation and presentation of menu items for special functions.
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls for food, supplies, and equipment. Participate in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of supervisory and support staff.
  • Manage revenue and expenses to meet financial objectives.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as required.


Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven culinary skills in institutional, hotel, or restaurant settings, particularly in large-scale food production.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in culinary management.
  • Strong leadership abilities and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A successful history of managing costs and overseeing annual budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in institutional management, nutrition, dietetics, or hotel and restaurant management, or certification from a recognized culinary institution, or a combination of education and experience.
