Job Overview

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Operations Manager to join our NS&T Research Operations Department. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life experience. The Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing research activities and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards in designated laboratory spaces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the effective, efficient, and safe execution of laboratory work, adhering to established procedures and policies.
  • Utilize extensive experience in research operations to plan, evaluate, and assess both proposed and ongoing laboratory projects, including the design and setup of experimental apparatus.
  • Support team members in identifying and mitigating potential hazards during research activities, applying knowledge of laboratory standards to determine appropriate work controls.
  • Manage laboratory space coordinators and provide guidance to Principal Researchers and staff engaged in laboratory research.
  • Ensure the safe and compliant execution of R&D activities, offering leadership and technical support to research staff.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and contribute to strategic planning as a member of the laboratory operations leadership team.
  • Provide advisory support and guidance for complex projects and research operations.
  • Evaluate proposed research activities for potential hazards and assist researchers in implementing appropriate hazard controls.
  • Support the completion and revision of work control documents, ensuring rigorous review processes are followed.
  • Conduct assessments to ensure compliance with laboratory and operational requirements, advising on process improvements as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or a Doctorate with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred educational background in Chemical/Analytical Sciences, Materials Sciences, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Ability to thrive in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
