Position Overview:

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Power Systems Operations Manager to oversee our Facilities and Site Services division. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule, allowing for every Friday off, and is based out of our Central facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate intricate operational challenges, explore alternative solutions, and provide well-founded recommendations to ensure work is conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Establish benchmarks for exceptional customer service while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Power Management Department Manager to assess the overall impact on laboratory operations and devise solutions in response to evolving lab objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage in performance management initiatives for the department, fostering career development opportunities for team members.
  • Implement strict safety protocols for work near energized electrical distribution systems, ensuring risk is minimized through established safety controls.
  • Ensure representation of the Power Management Group on Employee Safety Teams.
  • Serve as a qualified Power Management Duty Manager, providing 24/7 support for power dispatching and emergency response coordination.
  • Oversee budget development, scheduling, and performance metrics for the organizational unit.
  • Work collaboratively with subordinate supervisors and peer groups to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Formulate long-term strategies and load forecasting for the power grid system.
  • Mentor engineers, planners, and operators to foster professional growth.
  • Supervise the operation of the 138kV transmission and distribution system to ensure reliable power delivery.
  • Manage the allocation of the monthly power bill among users through accurate metering practices.
  • Maintain regular communication with the power utility regarding rate adjustments.
  • Update operations policies and procedures regularly, providing training to personnel as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining the department budget and planning for future expansion.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with power utility companies.
  • Oversee project management for initiatives undertaken by Power Management engineering and craft personnel to meet budgetary and scheduling objectives.
  • Comply with INL, State, and Federal policies and standards, including cybersecurity and safety regulations.
  • Ensure accuracy and regular updates of Power Management system drawings.
  • Maintain up-to-date Arc Flash calculations for the transmission and distribution systems.
  • Facilitate the connection and operation of power generation resources within the power system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related field, along with 9 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 6 years of progressive managerial and technical experience in power system operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational 24/7 Power Management Duty Manager assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer License or advanced degree.
  • Experience in Public Utility Operations and Engineering.
  • Background in high voltage transmission and distribution operations, maintenance, or design.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Target pay range: $100,540 - $155,973 annually, with a full range of $89,652 - $215,160 based on qualifications.
