Position Overview:

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Operational Support Specialist to contribute to our Mission Support division. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule, providing every Friday off, and is based at our advanced Materials and Fuels Complex.

The Materials and Fuels Complex is equipped with a unique blend of skilled personnel, cutting-edge facilities, and robust infrastructure, enabling comprehensive research and development of nuclear fuels from inception through post-irradiation evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute a diverse range of tasks that bolster operational functions, ensuring adherence to leadership principles and Human Performance Improvement (HPI) methodologies.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate assessments, offering guidance to team members involved in these evaluations.
  • Identify potential risks that could affect management system outcomes and devise assurance strategies to effectively mitigate these risks.
  • Provide analytical support to leadership to enhance operational performance.
  • Directly oversee and guide personnel to ensure the safe and compliant execution of scheduled operational tasks, adhering to procedural requirements and work control standards.
  • Verify that all personnel possess the necessary training and are fit for duty, addressing any issues related to training and compliance.
  • Ensure that non-operational staff engaged in operational activities maintain a disciplined approach in line with established management procedures.
  • Support the ongoing enhancement of Conduct of Operations, Integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS), HPI, and Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) initiatives.
  • Maintain facility configurations in accordance with safety protocols, identifying and mitigating hazards.
  • Contribute to the review and development of facility operating documents, ensuring a thorough understanding of facility systems and safety limits.
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding any identified issues or conflicts within the facility, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by facility management.
  • Independently manage a variety of assignments, actively seeking opportunities to lead and complete tasks.
  • Serve as an alternate for critical safety oversight roles, managing the assessment of criticality hazards and operational aspects when designated.
  • Qualify as a reviewer/approver for Unreviewed Safety Questions (USQ).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution, accompanied by 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional background in operational roles or related technical fields.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
  • This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a technical area.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, or Primavera P6.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is Level 420 ($54,876-$107,064) / Level 430 ($63,528-$130,284), determined by factors including education and relevant experience.
