Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Thermal Systems Engineering Manager to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Permanence business unit, you will be responsible for leading the development and management of thermal control systems for our spacecraft.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and mentor a diverse team of Thermal Systems Engineers
  • Manage the professional development of direct reports, including coaching, performance reviews, and promotion management
  • Lead the development and management of thermal interfaces, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and models
  • Standardize Thermal Systems Engineering approaches across Lunar missions
  • Own the verification and validation of thermal requirements, in collaboration with Thermal test engineers
  • Perform traceability analysis of requirements to higher levels and to verification activities
  • Utilize Systems Engineering tools such as Jama, Windchill, and Cameo
  • Support and present at major gated reviews, including design reviews and readiness reviews
  • Monitor technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, deliverables, and risks, and review recommendations for change with program management
Requirements
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • Experience in the generation of requirements, decomposition, and analysis
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and mentoring employees
  • 8+ years of experience in thermal analysis for spacecraft systems
  • Experience solving a variety of spacecraft engineering challenges
  • Familiar with agile project management
  • Experience in design and analysis of safety-critical systems
  • Experience in safety-critical aerospace vehicle certification processes
  • Experience with space vehicle design, verification, integration, and test
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management, and Cost Account Management such as EVM
  • Experience managing subcontracts
