Thermal Systems Engineer for Lunar Lander Development

Our team is diverse, collaborative, and committed to a culture of safety, and we are seeking an experienced thermal systems engineer to join our Lunar Transportation business unit.
This role is part of our Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program, which aims to develop sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a thermal systems engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and building clean sheet motor-driven liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen pumps for our lunar lander. Your expertise will be essential in generating 2D and 3D finite element analyses to predict thermal states of turbomachinery components and assemblies.
You will work closely with our team to develop thermal models, anchor them to test data, and provide recommendations for design changes and future test campaigns. Your passion for our mission and vision is required, as well as your commitment to quality and your ability to positively impact safe human spaceflight. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners to develop the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop thermal models for turbomachinery components and assemblies
- Generate 2D and 3D finite element analyses to predict thermal states
- Anchor thermal models to test data and provide recommendations for design changes
- Collaborate with the team to develop and implement thermal analysis solutions
- Work closely with NASA and National Team Partners to develop the Lunar Transportation system
Requirements:
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical subject area
- 6+ years of experience in turbomachinery thermal and fluid analysis
- Strong understanding of heat transfer, flow, and thermodynamic first principles
- Excellent analysis bookkeeping skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly collaborate with external parties
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical subject area
- Experience with cryogenic applications and electric motor-driven pumps
- Experience in all phases of turbomachinery life cycle in flight vehicle applications
- Experience in engineering analysis/support for disposition of Non-Conformance (NC) related to turbomachinery components
Compensation:
The estimated salary for this role is between $102,383 and $143,335 per annum, depending on location and experience.
