Apex Systems is in search of a Senior Controls Engineer to support our client in the automation sector. This is a permanent/direct hire opportunity. Our client is renowned for designing, manufacturing, and integrating bespoke automation solutions across various industries, including Medical, Security, Aerospace, Automotive, Hi-Tech, and Plastics.

The Senior Controls Engineer will take charge of daily responsibilities such as process control, troubleshooting, motion control, and robotics, ensuring the flawless operation of tailored automation systems and machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to create custom automation machinery within the medical device and biotechnology sectors.
  • Interpret customer requirements into design specifications, assess design feasibility, and offer technical insights to fulfill customer needs.
  • Develop programming for PLCs, safety systems, and design the HMI interface.
  • Source and program motors, drives, actuators, robots, vision systems, sensors, and servo controls.
  • Oversee complete system programming, testing, debugging, commissioning, installation, service, and upgrades.
  • Execute comprehensive electrical designs, crafting professional electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Maintain detailed bills of materials for accuracy, including quantities and part numbers.
  • Compose technical manuals for manufacturing teams and clients.
  • Stay informed about cutting-edge technology.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Your contributions will support equipment across a variety of sectors, including medical, automotive, packaging, hi-tech, security, and manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated programming expertise in PLCs, HMI displays, and safety systems, with core platforms including Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Siemens, as well as experience with B&R and Beckhoff.
  • A system-level approach to comprehensive machine programming with a strong emphasis on recovery processes.
  • Experience in robotics, automation systems, vision systems, and various sensors.
  • Proficient in PC networking, device communications, integration, and design.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical component selection and panel layout design, including safety and labeling practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with customers and team members.
  • Ability to research and evaluate various hardware and software to keep machine designs aligned with evolving technology.
  • Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms, motion, and assembly processes.

Education:

  • BSEE or BSEET with a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
  • ASEE or ASEET with at least 10 years of experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
  • Candidates with alternative degrees and relevant experience will also be considered (such as an Associate's Degree in Robotics and Automation Controls or Electronics).
