Your Responsibilities:
As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of Oregon's most vulnerable children and families. Your commitment will help us realize our Child Welfare objectives, ensuring that children and young adults are safer, healthier, experience less trauma, and achieve improved well-being.
As a Social Service Specialist, your duties will include:
- Safety & Well-being: Play a vital role in assisting families in reaching their goals while ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
- Engagement: Interact with children, families, resource parents, and caregivers in various capacities to promote safety, permanency, and optimal outcomes for Oregon's children and families.
- Assessment and Interviews: Conduct assessments and fact-finding interviews concerning child safety, risks of abuse, neglect, or harm, while addressing the necessary care and needs of children and families.
- Strategies: Develop and implement multi-faceted strategies that leverage family strengths and address areas for improvement.
- Decision-Making: Analyze collected information to determine suitable child placements, taking into account each family's unique circumstances.
- Communication: Prepare reports, case notes, and provide testimony in court, while effectively communicating with diverse populations in various settings.
- Application Review and Home Studies: Review applications, interview applicants, and conduct home studies to assess an applicant's capacity to care for children with special needs, ensuring thorough documentation.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field, or
- A bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with either:
- One year of experience in human services, or
- Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency, or
- An associate degree with either:
- Two years of experience in human services, or
- One year of experience in human services along with related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
Key Attributes:
We seek candidates with experience in:
- Community Engagement: Building collaborative relationships with community partners, agency staff, clients, and impacted communities.
- Trauma-Informed Practices: Implementing trauma-informed approaches that consider individual needs, safety, trust-building, and cultural sensitivity.
- Technical Proficiency: Navigating technology, inputting and retrieving data, and utilizing various computer systems or databases, including Microsoft 365 programs.
- Social Service Experience: Providing services and resources to children and families in social services environments.
- Written Communication: Crafting detailed reports with minimal spelling or grammar errors, including conclusions and recommended actions.
