Job Title: IT Project Manager

Amherst College is seeking a highly skilled IT Project Manager to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for leading and managing complex IT projects from initiation to delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Analyze business and IT processes to identify inefficiencies and gaps and lead efforts to develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Create and implement Organizational Change strategies to support adopting changes and realizing project benefits.
  • Lead the various stages of a project's life cycle, combining appropriate project management methodologies as needed.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, risk assessment, and resource allocation and deliverables.
  • Lead and monitor project execution and assess project effectiveness.
  • Convene and lead project team meetings, help define project objectives, and ensure successful monitoring and control of projects.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership to understand business needs and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • A high degree of professionalism.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication abilities.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Experience in a Project Management (or equivalent) role for 5-8 years (possibly as part of a team).
  • Commitment to effectively working with a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a technology field.
  • Strong background in project management with experience in both Agile and traditional methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience handling implementations and upgrades in a complex IT environment.
  • Certification in PMP, CAPM, CSM, and/or ITIL4.
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience managing capital IT projects.
  • Certification in one or more Project Management methodologies (e.g., Scrum).
  • Demonstrated planning and Project Management skills within a higher education environment.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to effectively summarize and present information through reports and dashboards.
  • Experience with multiple project management toolsets, specifically including Asana.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate accessibility and a commitment to diversity in their work.
