Job Overview

The Seating Systems CAE Specialist will play a crucial role in evaluating and enhancing innovative seat designs to comply with regulatory and internal performance standards. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge Vehicle Platform Architectures for electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Your contributions will include:
  • Collaborating with Program Design, safety, and CAE teams to engineer first, second, and third row seating systems for electric vehicle platforms.
  • Creating CAE models to assess seat strength and rigidity at both the seat and body interface, adhering to established modeling guidelines.
  • Conducting Design of Experiments (DOE) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) studies utilizing optimization tools to ensure seat designs meet performance criteria while balancing cost and weight constraints.
  • Facilitating rapid concept development for new ideas and working in a collaborative environment to tackle technical challenges and fulfill project requirements.
  • Engaging in post-test evaluations to align CAE predictions with physical testing outcomes.
  • Ensuring that designs meet safety regulations and U.S. government standards.
  • Assisting in the formulation of standard operating procedures for delivering high-quality models and simulation results.
  • Responsible for analyzing results related to belt, bolt, weld, and sectional forces, as well as creating visual representations to identify critical load paths.
  • Participating in design review sessions and presenting design proposals, while offering recommendations for design enhancements.
Qualifications

The essential qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and executing CAE models for seating systems.
  • Proficient in using CAE pre- and post-processing software such as Hyperworks, ANSA, or equivalent for geometry preparation and meshing.
  • Experience in running, troubleshooting, and post-processing analyses using Nastran, LS-Dyna, or similar CAE tools.
  • Ability to utilize optimization software such as HEEDS, ModeFRONTIER, Optistruct, Tosca, Inspire, or ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with CAD software like CATIA/3Dx and the capability to develop CAE models from the ground up.
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and provide sound recommendations.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • Capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in developing and executing CAE models.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAE preprocessing tools such as Hypermesh, ANSA, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in modeling and analyzing various material systems, including metals and plastics, as well as joining technologies.
