Northrop Grumman Space Systems is in search of a Software Engineering Manager for Cyber and Software Operations. This role will be based in California and will support the Strategic Deterrent Systems Division.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess staffing requirements, both current and anticipated, collaborating with team leads to fulfill those needs.
  • Support recruitment efforts, including requisition creation, conducting interviews, and approving job offers.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to set personal, programmatic, and functional objectives, as well as conducting performance evaluations and merit adjustments for team members.
  • Provide career development guidance, mentoring, and necessary disciplinary actions for team members.
  • Ensure the acquisition of essential computers, equipment, and tools for team members to perform their tasks effectively.
  • Develop training plans tailored to program and team member needs.
  • Communicate regularly with the team regarding company and organizational updates, acting as a representative for the organization.
  • The candidate will primarily focus on technical responsibilities, leading teams in the development, modification, and maintenance of systems using best engineering practices and standards. This role may also include Cost Account Management and Risk Management responsibilities.
  • Establish and promote high standards for engineering development.

  • Collaborate with engineering and program management peers to ensure efficient resource allocation to meet key mission objectives.
  • Mentor, support, and motivate team members to achieve high performance levels.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement initiatives to establish high-quality and efficient DevOps/Development processes.
  • Work with peers and management in resource planning and recruitment activities.
  • Collaborate with team members to lead automation and integration of functionalities within other software environments.
  • Automate routine tasks to minimize labor-intensive activities.
  • Utilize the Atlassian application suite and other pipeline tools as necessary. This position requires the candidate to balance functional management duties with their current program responsibilities.

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule.

The 9/80 schedule allows employees to work nine-hour days from Monday to Thursday, providing every other Friday off. This role may also offer a competitive relocation assistance package.



Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience; a Master's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience; or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

US Citizenship and an Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date within the last 6 years are required.

At least 1 year of experience leading a project and/or managing performance against a schedule is necessary. A minimum of 3 years' experience with the software development life cycle and Agile methodologies is also required.


Preferred Qualifications:
Active Secret Clearance. Program Access. Ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance. A minimum of 3 years leading a team, including mentoring and coaching experience.
Experience with performance assessments for individual contributors.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning abilities with the capacity to identify and mitigate potential programmatic and technical risks.

  • Master's degree in engineering.

General understanding of Northrop Grumman Engineering Processes.

Working knowledge and/or experience across various engineering disciplines.

Experience with ICBMs.

Experience managing an engineering team is preferred.

Familiarity with Agile engineering practices and Jira.



Salary Range:
$147,000 - $221,800.00. The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers several factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may qualify for Long Term Incentives.
