Position Overview
The selected candidate will function as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) within the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). This role is pivotal in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems, networks, and data. The ISSO will be responsible for the strategic planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of comprehensive information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Key Responsibilities
The individual in this position will:
-- Support the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) by crafting policies and procedures that ensure the reliability and accessibility of information systems while defending against unauthorized access;
-- Assume the responsibilities of the ISSM during their absence;
-- Conduct thorough risk and vulnerability assessments of existing and planned information systems to identify potential vulnerabilities and protection needs;
-- Foster awareness of security issues among management, ensuring that sound security principles are integrated into the organization's vision and goals;
-- Perform systems security evaluations, audits, and reviews;
-- Develop and implement systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery strategies;
-- Participate as a member of the Change Control Board (CCB);
-- Create and implement programs to ensure that users of systems, networks, and data are informed of and adhere to security policies and procedures;
-- Engage in network and systems design to guarantee the application of appropriate security policies;
-- Assess security incidents to determine their impact and execute corrective measures;
-- Ensure strict adherence to information security and assurance policies in the delivery of all IT services.
-- Oversee system recovery processes to confirm that security features and procedures are restored and functioning correctly;
-- Ensure that audit records are collected, reviewed, and documented, including any anomalies.
Specific Duties Include:
1. Maintain the organization's cybersecurity program, encompassing architecture, requirements, objectives, policies, personnel, and processes in collaboration with the Cyber Security Directorate (CSD).
2. Serve as a technical advisor on cybersecurity matters for the organization and the Authorizing Official (AO) for the systems under their management.
3. Act as a subject matter expert in securing multi-level security information systems, collaborating with the ISSM and other organizations to develop new policies and procedures for risk analysis and management.
4. Communicate and collaborate with the Command ISSM and Command Security Manager on areas of mutual interest and impact.
5. Analyze customer information systems for potential risks to the organization.
6. Maintain a repository for all cybersecurity-related documentation, including Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) management, Certification and Accreditation (C&A), and Computer Network Defense (CND).
7. Monitor compliance with cybersecurity policies among information systems and users, reviewing the results of such monitoring.
8. Ensure that cybersecurity inspections, tests, and reviews are coordinated with all affected parties and organizations.
9. Implement information security measures and procedures, including reporting incidents to the ISSM and Authorizing Official (AO).
