The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Preschool Education Coordinator to join our team.

Our preschool educators cultivate a nurturing environment that fosters learning, character growth, healthy lifestyles, and supportive relationships. Compensation begins at $36,192+ annually, depending on qualifications, with a Monday-Friday work schedule and opportunities for advancement within the organization.

As a Preschool Education Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and encouraging classroom atmosphere for children aged 3-5, while preparing them for their transition to kindergarten. Utilizing the Creative Curriculum and Illinois Early Learning Standards, you will design and execute lesson plans that support the holistic development of children in areas such as physical, emotional, cognitive, and social skills, while adhering to developmentally appropriate practices. Additionally, you will oversee classroom management and the supervision of children, as well as assessments and evaluations, in compliance with relevant policies.

  • Implement culturally and linguistically responsive practices that honor all children and families, ensuring they feel welcomed and integral to the program.
  • Maintain vigilant supervision of children's needs, ensuring their health and safety at all times.
  • Foster effective communication and partnerships with parents and families, encouraging their involvement.
  • Adhere to all quality standards and regulations to maintain a safe and high-quality educational environment.
  • Collaborate regularly with the classroom team, including families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Utilize various data sources to inform instructional practices and support child-centered learning and development.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and continuous quality improvement initiatives, identifying diverse instructional resources to meet the varying needs of children and enhance their learning experiences.
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention efforts while contributing to the YMCA's mission and operational goals.

Lesson Planning and Classroom Management:

  • Create lesson plans with clear goals, objectives, activities, and outcomes aligned with the Illinois Early Learning Standards.
  • Deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate instructional activities and curriculum approaches that promote active learning and support the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of each child, while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Research and implement appropriate projects for in-depth exploration of topics over time.
  • Establish and maintain an inviting, clean, safe, and engaging classroom environment that encourages children's independence and choice of activities.
  • Utilize the physical environment and pedagogical documentation to enhance teaching and learning practices.
  • Employ observational data to plan engaging early learning experiences tailored to the emergent needs of each child.
  • Document observations and maintain child portfolios to assist in assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet licensing and accreditation requirements; ECE Credential Level 1 or higher preferred.
  • 64 semester hours in any field with at least 21 hours in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood special education, along with one of the following:
    • Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential
    • OR 3 semester hours in administration, leadership, or management
    • OR 3 points of credential-approved training in administration, leadership, or management.
  • One year of teaching experience or equivalent in a preschool setting is strongly preferred.
  • Documentation of Gateways credentialing must be provided or applied for within 90 days of employment.
  • Familiarity with the Creative Curriculum and other high-quality educational approaches is preferred.
  • Pre-employment medical screening and TB testing are required as per program guidelines.
  • Food Handlers Training must be achieved or maintained once in the role.
