Job Summary

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly skilled Patient Service Coordinator to provide exceptional support to patients and families. This role is responsible for ensuring a positive experience for patients, from initial contact to departure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations, and consultations.
  • Coordinate visits within the department or between multiple departments.
  • Verify and enter pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system.
  • Prepare daily printed schedules for designated areas.
  • Obtain and/or verify patient demographic data by phone or in person.
  • Confirm appointments by telephone and/or mail.
  • Register patients for clinical appointments using a computerized database.
  • Assist patients or family members with completion of medical insurance forms.
  • Inform patients of costs of care being provided and guide them to appropriate resources.
  • Arrange or assist in arranging patient transportation.
  • Answer phones and provide routine information to callers.
  • Collect payments.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year work experience in customer service required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years related work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance coverage.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Basic computer skills.
