Senior Human Resources Officer

Purpose/Description
The Senior Human Resources Officer, under the guidance of the Personnel/Payroll Administrator, will manage the daily functions of the Sheriff's Personnel Office. This includes overseeing the processing of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests, ensuring that employees receive the appropriate FMLA documentation, maintaining the FMLA tracking spreadsheet, monitoring work assignments, analyzing FMLA applications, and tracking both authorized and unauthorized leave.
The Senior Human Resources Officer will act as the liaison for Sheriff Personnel during interviews and will undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks
- Manage FMLA documentation and processes.
- Facilitate onboarding for new hires, including both civilian staff and law enforcement personnel.
- Conduct monthly random drug screenings.
- Operate independently, making informed decisions.
- Implement and enforce relevant policies and procedures.
- Supervise a team of two clerical specialists, delegating tasks and providing necessary training.
- Schedule various medical screenings and interviews, including return-to-work drug tests and COVID-19 assessments.
- Process personnel transactions, including personal leaves and new hires.
- Pre-screen candidates for various departmental roles.
- Coordinate training for new police officers.
- Prepare and analyze various reports.
- Research and compile documents for the Disability Manager.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Educational/Experience Requirements
An Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Human Resources, Personnel Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field; AND
Four (4) years of full-time experience in a Personnel Office, with at least one of the following areas: Recruitment, Payroll or Timekeeping, Compensation, Contract Administration, Processing of Personnel Transactions, or Classification.
Note:
Two (2) additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the required degree.
