Position Overview

The Sleep Tech II is responsible for conducting both routine and specialized sleep studies during overnight and daytime hours.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conducts overnight and daytime sleep studies for a diverse patient population, excluding neonates and infants.
  2. Communicates testing procedures effectively to patients to foster cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
  3. Monitors patient comfort and safety throughout the testing process, promptly notifying physicians of any abnormalities or changes in patient conditions.
  4. Collects and documents patient identification and medical history accurately.
  5. Adjusts equipment settings in accordance with physician directives or established protocols.
  6. Prepares and positions patients appropriately for testing procedures.
  7. Inspects, tests, and maintains equipment, performing minor repairs as necessary to ensure optimal functionality.
  8. Scores sleep studies and compiles reports that summarize collected data and physiological events.
  9. Participates in workshops, seminars, and other educational programs to stay informed about current trends in sleep disorders and methodologies, ensuring high-quality and effective studies.
  10. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in response to emergencies, fluctuating workloads, personnel shortages, new technologies, and procedural changes.
  11. Maintains regular communication with colleagues, supervisors, and lead technicians via email during each shift.
  12. Implements disinfection protocols as per manufacturer guidelines.
  13. Adheres to standard precautions and practices hand hygiene diligently.
  14. Executes technical procedures accurately and safely, in alignment with policy guidelines.
  15. Actively engages in departmental meetings and huddles to foster communication.
  16. Demonstrates accountability in achieving departmental goals and upholding the values and mission of DCH Health System.

  • Utilizes electronic mail, timekeeping software, learning management systems, and intranet resources as required.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures established by DCH Health System.
  • Completes any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must possess certification as a Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT or RRT) or have a minimum of one year of full-time experience as an Electroneurodiagnostic Technician or Sleep Technician, or have completed a recognized Sleep training program. CPR certification is required prior to commencement. Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending English is essential. RPSGT credentialing or completion of the ASTEP course is required within two years.

Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, sit, bend, or crouch with good balance.

Ability to remain vigilant while seated in front of a computer monitor for extended periods in a quiet environment.

Must navigate uneven or rough surfaces and ascend/descend stairs.

Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs. over a distance of 50 feet.

Assists in repositioning patients weighing over 200 lbs.
Must be able to reach overhead to retrieve or replace items.

Must perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Normal or corrected hearing and vision are required.

Physical presence at the worksite is mandatory.
