Job Summary:

Astrolab is seeking an experienced Avionics Engineering Manager to lead our team in designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers. As a key member of our world-class team, you will oversee the development of reliable avionics solutions for our FLEX Rover mission to the lunar surface.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet program commitments for rover control systems, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery while achieving technical targets.
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor a team dedicated to developing and deploying reliable avionics solutions.
  • Oversee cost management and scheduling within the allocated budget and provide budget forecasts for corporate and program planning.
  • Formulate program and technical strategies, including decisions on make/buy, risk management, and supplier selection.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines like mechanics, operations, and software to ensure the smooth execution of each team's objectives.
  • Guide the team through milestone reviews, ensuring technical and programmatic success.
  • Provide context to their team so members can execute their tasks successfully and independently.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in STEM from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years' of experience in aerospace system development, integration, or testing.
  • Proven track record of delivering spaceflight hardware through the full design life cycle (design, test, qualification, launch, operation).
  • Understanding of all failure modes of spaceflight electrical components.
  • Strong understanding of radiation effects on spaceflight electronics.
  • Past or current experience using Altium, E3, and Siemens NX or equivalent design programs.
  • Past or current experience with instrumentation and sensors, including DMMs, DAQ, function generators, oscilloscopes, DIO, GPIB, USB, RS-232/422/485, GigE, SPI, etc.
  • Strong understanding of environmental testing such as shock/vibe, TVAC, burn-in, and its implications for electrical design.
  • Ability to lead in a dynamic and flexible environment.
  • Must be able to communicate complex technical subjects to a variety of audiences succinctly.
  • Must work well in fast-paced, interdisciplinary environments.
