SENIOR PROPULSION SYSTEMS ENGINEER (RAPTOR AVIONICS)

The Raptor Avionics division is tasked with the innovation, production, and evaluation of all avionics integrated into Raptor engines. This Senior Engineer position will oversee a dedicated team focused on enhancing processes, ensuring quality, and scaling our internal production capabilities for various avionics components, including PCBAs, sensors, and wiring harnesses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a skilled team in a dynamic, high-volume production setting.
  • Assess engineering and manufacturing specifications to optimize the production of avionics components, collaborating with a diverse group of engineers across multiple disciplines.
  • Partner with design engineers to establish standards that streamline production and create sustainable systems of effective requirements.
  • Address manufacturing challenges, manage nonconforming parts, conduct root cause analyses, and implement effective corrective measures.
  • Offer insights for tooling design and enhancements based on thorough analysis and data evaluation.
  • Design and develop tooling for both new and existing products to support efficient production rates.
  • Refine current production processes to reduce costs while enhancing quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with various work centers to monitor production flow, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions.
  • Establish standard operating procedures, troubleshooting manuals, and repair protocols, including the review and approval of planning documents.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related technical field with experience in pressure transducers or similar sensors.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with physical sensors, PCBAs, or test development.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role or managing projects.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in engineering leadership with direct reports.
  • Experience transitioning teams and processes from development to production.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with all organizational levels, including production staff, engineers, and executives.
  • Technical knowledge of process controls and qualifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and parts lists.
  • Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing tasks and a fast-paced work environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to quality and efficiency.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work directly with hardware on the production floor for extended periods.
  • Availability for extended hours and weekend work as needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary range:

Senior Level: $125,000 - $175,000 annually.

Your specific level and base salary will be determined based on various factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is part of a comprehensive rewards package at SpaceX, which may include long-term incentives, potential bonuses, and stock purchase options. Employees also enjoy extensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other benefits. Additionally, employees accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays each year.
