Position Summary

The Lead Financial Planning Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the management team with the formulation, preparation, and oversight of the organization's annual budgeting process. This position involves comprehensive financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, alongside various tasks related to financial strategy and expenditure management. Key responsibilities include conducting variance analysis between actual and budgeted expenses, forecasting future financial performance, analyzing workforce metrics, and engaging in diverse financial analytical tasks. The Lead Financial Planning Analyst will collaborate with department heads and administrative leaders to fulfill all finance-related inquiries and will assist in monitoring expenses and generating budgeting reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret expense data, preparing reports that benchmark budget versus actual performance.
  • Employ financial and budgeting software to create reports that aid firm decision-makers in managing the business effectively.
  • Provide training to staff on budgeting and financial management tools.
  • Evaluate the financial implications of proposed changes in services or organizational structure, preparing updated expense forecasts for management review.
  • Work in partnership with office and department leaders to develop financial projections.
  • Collect financial and headcount information for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) related to current and prospective business opportunities.
  • Assist in completing quarterly and annual industry surveys.
  • Conduct various reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy between payroll and headcount data.
  • Support the creation of monthly and ad-hoc analyses across various offices, practices, and departments.
  • Innovate new methods to integrate information, enhancing access for firm decision-makers.
  • Execute assignments as requested by management to support various initiatives and projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in presenting information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Exceptional analytical capabilities.
  • Fundamental mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel; competent in MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Required Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in budget or financial analysis within the legal sector or a related field.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with budgeting software such as Xcelerate or similar tools.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory.

Preferred Education

  • A degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred.

Compensation Information

The estimated base salary range for this role is $115,000 - $130,000. The actual salary offered will depend on various factors, including the applicant's qualifications, relevant experience, educational background, certifications, and, if applicable, the location from which the applicant will be performing the job. This position is classified as exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay.
