Position Overview:

The Cultural Education Specialist for American Indian Programs plays a crucial role in providing direct support and services to students, families, and educational staff. This position is dedicated to addressing achievement gaps through the effective management and execution of objectives outlined in the American Indian Education Aid Application.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates small group sessions with American Indian students, leading activities that promote and enhance their cultural identity through the use of culturally relevant resources and knowledge of tribal traditions.
  • Offers academic guidance and intervention for American Indian students who are struggling to meet grade-level expectations.
  • Serves as a resource for the integration of inclusive practices and American Indian content standards within the classroom, including organizing culturally relevant training and identifying appropriate materials.
  • Acts as a communication bridge between parents and the school, ensuring effective dialogue and support.
  • Coordinates and leads meetings for the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC).
  • Organizes community cultural events and activities that foster community engagement in collaboration with the AIPAC.
  • Manages the procurement of supplies and materials in alignment with the established plan and budget.

Qualifications:

A minimum of an AAS or AA Degree is required, with a Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Proven experience in effectively engaging with culturally diverse students and families is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of American Indian programs, culture, and heritage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with students, families, and educational personnel.
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and take initiative in decision-making.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to learning and supporting the educational philosophy and objectives of STMA Schools.
