Position Overview
The Recreational Therapy Specialist I role involves:
- Leading therapeutic group sessions on a daily basis.
- Conducting individualized assessments centered on personal needs.
- Creating and modifying treatment plans to meet client goals, particularly those aimed at successful discharge.
- Participating in departmental meetings and engaging in regular supervision with your manager.
- Designing and implementing group activity protocols.
- Providing coverage for group activities in the absence of team members.
- Attending state-sponsored training sessions to enhance therapeutic techniques.
Core Responsibilities
Essential functions include:
- Planning and executing therapeutic programs that encompass individual, group, social, or recreational activities.
- Facilitating small group and one-on-one activities for individuals who may not thrive in larger settings.
- Assessing participants' needs, interests, and abilities to tailor activities that promote community reintegration.
- Supporting the training and orientation of non-professional staff involved in therapeutic activities.
- Documenting attendance, engagement, and other relevant observations for each participant.
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing necessary reports.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Recreational Therapy Specialist I position, candidates must demonstrate:
- A minimum of six months of experience in planning and leading group activities.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Proficiency in narrative report writing.
Additional Information
This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement and is subject to its terms.
