Position Overview
The Recreational Therapy Specialist I role involves:

  • Leading therapeutic group sessions on a daily basis.
  • Conducting individualized assessments centered on personal needs.
  • Creating and modifying treatment plans to meet client goals, particularly those aimed at successful discharge.
  • Participating in departmental meetings and engaging in regular supervision with your manager.
  • Designing and implementing group activity protocols.
  • Providing coverage for group activities in the absence of team members.
  • Attending state-sponsored training sessions to enhance therapeutic techniques.

Core Responsibilities
Essential functions include:

  • Planning and executing therapeutic programs that encompass individual, group, social, or recreational activities.
  • Facilitating small group and one-on-one activities for individuals who may not thrive in larger settings.
  • Assessing participants' needs, interests, and abilities to tailor activities that promote community reintegration.
  • Supporting the training and orientation of non-professional staff involved in therapeutic activities.
  • Documenting attendance, engagement, and other relevant observations for each participant.
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing necessary reports.

Qualifications
To qualify for the Recreational Therapy Specialist I position, candidates must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of six months of experience in planning and leading group activities.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Proficiency in narrative report writing.

Additional Information
This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement and is subject to its terms.
