Position Overview

The Recreational Therapy Specialist role involves leading therapeutic sessions, conducting individualized assessments, and creating or updating treatment plans. You will support clients in achieving their treatment objectives, including those aimed at successful discharge. Participation in departmental meetings, supervision sessions, and program planning is also essential. You will develop and implement group protocols and provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are core to the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties:

  • Design and facilitate therapeutic programs that include individual, group, social, or recreational activities such as games, outings, and creative arts.
  • Conduct small group and personalized activities for individuals who may not thrive in larger settings.
  • Perform activity assessments to evaluate the needs, interests, and capabilities of individuals, facilitating their participation in activities and community reintegration.
  • Assist in training non-professional staff involved in therapeutic activities, enhancing their skills in engaging with individuals.
  • Document attendance, participation, and relevant observations for each individual.
  • Provide planning coverage for activities in the absence of assigned staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
Qualifications

To qualify for the Recreational Therapy Specialist position, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  1. At least six months of experience in organizing and leading group activities.
  2. At least six months of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  3. At least six months of experience applying relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  4. At least six months of experience in writing narrative reports.
Additional Information

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement that outlines the terms and conditions of employment.

Conditions of Employment
