Position Overview

The role of the Recreational Therapist I involves leading therapeutic groups on a daily basis, conducting personalized assessments, and developing or modifying treatment plans. You will encourage clients to engage in their treatment objectives, including discharge goals, and participate in departmental meetings and supervision sessions. Responsibilities also include planning and executing group protocols, providing coverage in the absence of colleagues, and attending training sessions to enhance therapeutic skills.

Key Responsibilities

The following are essential functions of the position, which are common across the classification:

  • Design and implement therapeutic programs that include individual, group, social, or recreational activities such as games and outings.
  • Facilitate small group and personalized activities for individuals who may not thrive in larger settings.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate the needs, interests, and capabilities of participants in relation to their involvement in activities and community reintegration.
  • Assist in training non-professional staff in conducting therapeutic activities and developing skills to work effectively with individuals.
  • Document attendance, responses to activities, and other relevant observations for each participant.
  • Provide coverage for activity planning in the absence of assigned staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
Qualifications

To qualify for the Recreational Therapist I position, applicants must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  1. At least six months of experience in planning and leading group activities.
  2. At least six months of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  3. At least six months of experience in applying relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  4. At least six months of experience in writing narrative reports.
Additional Information

This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. A satisfactory criminal background check and pre-employment drug testing are required as conditions of hire.
