Job Overview

The Quality Engineer is essential in fostering ongoing enhancement initiatives within a Custom Injection Molding setting. This role offers comprehensive and varied quality engineering and measurement support for the production of goods and processes while managing systems and executing projects across a wide range of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Quality Management System and promote continuous improvement on the production floor.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events to drive efficiency.
  • Collaborate in teams to develop control plans, process documentation, inspection and testing criteria, statistical process control (SPC), and calibration & measurement system evaluations.
  • Conduct both internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
  • Manage quality for suppliers and customers effectively.
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
  • Engage in failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), including Design (DFMEA) and Process (PFMEA).
  • Prepare Inspection Reports (FAIR) for new part introductions and modifications to existing parts.
  • Draft or review technical specifications, quality standards, sampling plans, and inspection procedures.
  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to establish quality and reliability objectives for finished products.
  • Ensure successful product launches by adhering to scheduled timelines.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes, employing the 8D methodology and other relevant tools.
  • Coordinate the Material Review Board (MRB) process to assess and manage nonconforming products.
  • Specify inspection and testing methods and equipment.
  • Support mechanical inspections of plastic and metal components through advanced fixture design and dimensional measurements using CMM, Vision, Laser, CT, and manual instruments.
  • Maintain quality plans that incorporate performance metrics and milestones to monitor progress.
  • Conduct data collection and interpret results to guide improvement initiatives using various statistical techniques.
  • Review incoming inspections of materials and packaging for the specific program.
  • Advise on revisions of specifications as necessary.
  • Engage with all organizational levels, customers, and suppliers on quality-related matters.
  • Accountable for the quality of assigned products across multiple shifts.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., graphs, charts, formulas).
  • Exhibit a strong mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and dimensional analysis.
  • Experience with contact and non-contact metrology.
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerancing.
  • Familiarity with ISO-13485 and TS16949 standards.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing principles, including one-piece flow, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, and Visual Factory.
  • Experience in a Quality Engineering role, particularly in mechanical inspection of components, is advantageous.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in engineering contexts.
  • Solid understanding of PPAP/High Volume Process and Part Validation Techniques.
  • Experience with Process Validation and/or Test Method Validations (e.g., IQ, OQ, PQ, and/or TMV).
  • Strong statistical analysis and mathematical skills are essential.
  • Ability to perform metrology on plastic components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., graphs, charts, formulas).
