Position Overview:
Noblis is in search of experienced Principal Engineers specializing in aviation to provide support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the domains of Air Traffic Systems and Surveillance Services. This role involves executing intricate tasks related to the establishment and proposal of performance specifications, as well as the design and enhancement of systems and services that facilitate air traffic management and operations.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Principal Engineer, you will:

  • Act as a Senior Advisor, offering technical or domain expertise regarding FAA or federal government operations.
  • Utilize your knowledge of FAA processes, specialized applications, and diverse operational environments.
  • Oversee and direct complex projects focused on the design, development, and deployment of air traffic management systems and surveillance technologies.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and strategic direction for transitioning from current Air Traffic Control (ATC) capabilities to NextGen capabilities.
  • Conduct comprehensive system-wide evaluations and analyses throughout the National Airspace System (NAS) development life cycle, emphasizing ATC automation, communications, navigation, and surveillance components.
  • Develop and validate technical standards, surveillance-automation interfaces, and aircraft separation protocols.
  • Formulate and implement system safety and risk management strategies, establishing system configuration baselines.
  • Lead the creation of enterprise architecture products, functional and performance system specifications, and operational concepts.
  • Maintain requirements traceability matrices, functional decomposition matrices/trees, and interface documentation.
  • Supervise the allocation of requirements across developmental systems, subsystems, modules, and commercial components.
  • Prepare and review management and technical reports and presentations relevant to your area of expertise.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A successful completion of an FAA background investigation and a favorable final suitability determination.
  • Experience in aviation, systems engineering, or a related field, preferably within the federal sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of ATC systems, including automation, communications, navigation, and surveillance components.
  • A strong background in developing and validating technical standards and system safety plans.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to lead complex projects.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team; proactive, solution-oriented, with excellent time management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
Candidates should meet the following educational and experience criteria:

  • For senior-level positions: A minimum of 20 years of experience with a bachelor's degree in any field, although a technical degree is strongly preferred. A master's degree may substitute for three years of experience, and a PhD may substitute for an additional three years.
  • For mid-level positions: A minimum of 10 years of experience with a bachelor's degree in any field, with a technical degree strongly preferred. A master's degree may substitute for three years of experience, and a PhD may substitute for an additional three years.

The salary range for this position varies based on experience and qualifications.
