Job Summary:
The New York State Civil Service is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Administrative Law Judge/Assistant Administrative Law Judge to join our team. As a key member of our Motor Vehicle Referee team, you will be responsible for conducting administrative hearings and rendering decisions on various matters related to motor vehicle violations, fatal accidents, and other related issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct administrative hearings and render decisions on motor vehicle violations, fatal accidents, and other related issues.
- Prepare cases for review by the Motor Vehicle's Appeals Board.
- Render decisions on violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, Commissioner's Rules and Regulations, Navigation Law, and Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Laws.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure effective and efficient case management.
Requirements:
- Admission to the NYS bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience.
- 12 months as an Assistant Attorney 2, or Admission to the NYS Bar and 12 months of subsequent satisfactory legal experience in the trial of issues in courts of record or in the conduct or trial of adversary proceedings, quasi-judicial in nature, before a governmental department or agency.
- One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 B/C service allocated to a Grade 21 or higher eligible for transfer and deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years' experience as a New York State Attorney.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and excellent oral communication skills.
