Position Summary:
BHSI is excited to present an opportunity for an entry-level Claims Operations Specialist. This role involves various claims support functions, primarily focusing on the initial notice intake and data capture for Specialty lines commercial claims, particularly in Executive and Professional lines.

This position is interactive and visible, requiring collaboration with claim examiners, business partners, and external clients. A strong aptitude for learning and evaluating diverse policy and claim scenarios is essential, along with meticulous attention to detail. Success in this role hinges on a commitment to customer service excellence, the ability to grasp and communicate technical concepts, and effective prioritization of multiple tasks. As the organization expands, additional responsibilities may encompass various insurance lines or operational tasks such as reporting, compliance, quality assurance, and project involvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, review, and analyze policies against new claim loss reports to identify claim types and appropriate policy coverage; make decisions regarding coding and claims handler assignments, as well as responses to brokers, insured parties, and third-party administrators (TPA).
  • Comprehend essential insurance concepts related to policy coverages and deductibles, understanding their implications on claim processing.
  • Professionally acknowledge claims to insured parties, brokers, and TPAs in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to account-specific guidelines.
  • Ensure the processing of incoming work items meets established turnaround times with high quality and precise claim coding.
  • Contribute to process improvements by sharing insights gained from procedural learning and team interactions.
  • Adapt to evolving technology for work processing in a dynamic environment.
  • Handle additional claim support tasks as experience is gained to assist claim handlers.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.

  • Proficient in computer skills, including basic bookkeeping and mathematical abilities.
  • Strong learning aptitude, with flexibility and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Effective communication skills, able to interact professionally with a diverse range of individuals and teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with commercial policy coverages and structures.
  • Understanding of primary, excess, and underlying policy coverages.
  • Experience in commercial claims, including Property, Casualty, Marine, Small Business, and Executive and Professional lines.
  • Background in commercial insurance, encompassing claims, underwriting, or relevant education.
  • GA Adjuster license is advantageous.
