Position Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer leverages extensive expertise in continuous improvement engineering principles to design, integrate, and enhance manufacturing systems and processes across the organization. Collaborating with design teams, the engineer refines product designs to boost manufacturability and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement lean manufacturing methodologies to minimize waste in production.
  • Conduct time studies and modify production standards as necessary.
  • Design and supervise the creation of manufacturing tools and fixtures to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the fabrication of tools and fixtures for production use.
  • Continuously track scrap rates and initiate projects aimed at reducing manufacturing scrap costs.
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders and production management to analyze shop order variances and drive projects to enhance cost performance.
  • Educate work cell team members on continuous improvement practices, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Monitor the activities of Manufacturing Engineers and green belts, providing support as needed.
  • Develop work instructions to ensure proper setup and operation of manufacturing processes that meet customer specifications.
  • Train production staff in the development and application of visual production tools to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Utilize data analytics to inform decision-making processes.
  • Prepare reports summarizing problem-solving and corrective actions for production teams and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the design, installation, and troubleshooting of basic manufacturing equipment such as jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Employ six sigma tools and methodologies to identify root causes of failures through statistical analysis and recommend design or process modifications.
  • Draft estimates and proposals for projects to facilitate the approval of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Submit capital project requests as necessary.
  • Track continuous improvement projects and report outcomes regularly.
  • Compile reports detailing manufacturing performance trends and insights.
  • Provide training to production personnel on new or existing methodologies.
  • Support the transition of new products into production, collaborating with design teams to ensure processes meet customer needs.
  • Engage with customers, account managers, manufacturing staff, vendors, and team members to fulfill project requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with over 10 years of continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience managing continuous improvement green belts and technical engineers focused on process enhancement.
  • Demonstrated success in applying lean manufacturing and other continuous improvement methodologies. Familiarity with GD&T, CAD, Minitab, and MS Project is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis for process development and control in a manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing experience should emphasize assembly operations, tooling assessment, vendor qualification, facilities engineering, and cost reduction through process optimization.
  • Basic experience with Bridgeport, lathe, and other machine shop equipment is preferred.
