Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Recreation Program Supervisor to lead and coordinate diverse recreation activities and events on a citywide scale. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, organizing, and maintaining a wide range of recreation programs throughout the City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and direct regular and special recreation activities and events on a citywide basis.
  • Develop and maintain a large amount of varied recreation programming throughout the City.
  • Plan and coordinate city-wide tournaments, educational, and cultural activities related to recreation.
  • Coordinate in-service training programs for professional recreation personnel.
  • Write instructional memoranda, bulletins, and directives on matters regarding recreation department policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise over-all seasonal programs at camps, schools, and recreation centers.
  • Represent the department of recreation at citywide and community activities and facilities of the department.
Requirements

Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation, group work, education, or physical education; and 1 to 3 years' experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the rules, principles, techniques, and equipment applicable to recreation programming to meet the needs of all age groups and varied community interests.
  • Thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of organized recreation.
  • Thorough knowledge of recognized service and civic community groups and of their objectives and programs.
  • Ability to organize and integrate large and varied recreation programs and special events on a citywide scale.
  • Ability to supervise a large group of professional employees in the recreation department.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with a wide variety of service and civic organizations, city officials, city department and agency heads, and the general public.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and multiple priorities. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary and Benefits
