OverviewThe Senior Surety Underwriter is tasked with delivering profitable underwriting outcomes that align with growth and profitability goals through effective risk assessment, agency partnerships, portfolio management, and personal development. This role involves managing the underwriting and servicing of both new and renewal accounts for designated agents and producers, ensuring compliance with the company's underwriting policies, authority limits, and pricing structures. A thorough understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values is essential, along with a commitment to uphold the organization's standards.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a profitable portfolio by conducting thorough risk evaluations, establishing appropriate pricing, and ensuring high-quality service. Adhere to state regulations and corporate underwriting guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with the territory team, keeping colleagues and management updated on all relevant issues and activities.
- In partnership with management, create and execute the territory business strategy, sharing responsibility for achieving team objectives.
- Educate territory staff and clients on underwriting guidelines and protocols in line with corporate training standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for territory underwriting personnel within the limits of Home Office authority.
- Mentor and collaborate with the team to cultivate and sustain relationships with external clients, which may involve travel to meet with agents, producers, and nonprofit organizations.
- Actively engage in industry events, including agency or association conventions, as necessary.
- Deliver professional, prompt, and courteous communication and service to external clients and internal departments to effectively resolve issues related to policyholders and territory producers.
- Provide essential information and support to staff to facilitate the processing of coverage requests in accordance with service standards.
- Collaborate with the territory team on reporting and database updates as needed.
- Assist in collecting and sharing competitive intelligence.
- Stay informed about market trends and demands.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in insurance products, demonstrating a solid understanding of contract surety insurance coverage, risk assessment, and pricing strategies.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven ability to analyze data and make informed, calculated risk decisions.
- Capability to contribute effectively to both tactical and strategic planning.
- Experience in training, coaching, and mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds within the field.
- Commitment to confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% within the assigned territory and to the Home Office as needed.
Preferred:
- Professional designations such as CPCU or CIC.
- Ongoing professional development.
