About the Role

Liberty Mutual is seeking a highly skilled Senior Surety Underwriter to join our contract team in Seattle, WA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for marketing, underwriting, and servicing independent agents, brokers, and contract surety accounts within an assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development: Meet with agents and brokers to solicit business and educate them on Liberty Mutual Surety policies, procedures, appetite, and requirements.
  • Underwriting and Risk Assessment: Underwrite new and existing account submissions, utilizing underwriting authority granted by the Chief Underwriting Officer. Make thorough evaluations and assessments of a customer's financial, technical, organizational, and management capacities.
  • Financial Analysis: Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on both a static and trend basis, determining the present and historical financial position of the account.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and contract surety accounts within the assigned territory.
  • Marketing and Sales: Meet production, marketing, and profitability goals as set by the manager, and assist in developing a marketing plan.
  • Account Management: Monitor an existing book of business from an underwriting standpoint, continuously evaluating the qualitative characteristics of the business.
  • Special Projects: Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in surety underwriting, preferably with the contract Surety product line.
  • Certifications: AFSB certification preferred.
  • Skills: Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles, strong analytical and business judgment skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
