About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Build Coordination Lead to support multiple enrichment technology programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The successful candidate will lead the coordination of assembly, disassembly, investigation, and troubleshooting of centrifuge machines, and will be responsible for planning build activities and ensuring tasks are executed in accordance with drawings, procedures, work orders, manufacturing plans, and quality & inspection plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the coordination of assembly, disassembly, investigation, and troubleshooting of centrifuge machines.
  • Support hands-on assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting efforts when needed or appropriate.
  • Plan build activities and ensure tasks are executed in accordance with drawings, procedures, work orders, manufacturing plans, quality & inspection plans.
  • Coordinate in-service machine build/repair and parts replacement.
  • Partner with leaders across the division to understand machine build, reconfigure, and D&E needs in all ESED testbeds and ESED supported cascades.
  • Work with related groups to assure a long-term project guided approach and understanding of the ESED testbeds plan.
  • Review build drawings to ensure any changes are understood and planned for and ensure consistent, accurate documentation for all machine builds.
  • Partner with group leaders on available and qualified staff to assign to build activities.
  • Ensure builds are fully completed on time for scheduled testing/operations.
  • Ensure that supporting roles/needs are clearly communicated to other groups.
  • Ensure appropriate Disassembly & Evaluation information is gleaned from machine disassembly activities.
  • Use the ERP system to track machine build status and understand critical parts' inventory.
  • Overcome ad-hoc issues encountered during build process by applying an advanced level of knowledge.
  • Identify, track, and eliminate recurring issues observed during build activities.
  • Identify reasons for build inconsistencies and drive improvements.
  • Participate as a part of the ESFD Section Lead Team.
Requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of related manufacturing experience or a BS in another Engineering or Science/Technology field and a minimum of 12 years related manufacturing experience.
  • Comparable combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstration of advanced level manufacturing experience in an R&D and/or a production environment including familiarity with ES&H, production, quality assurance, supply chain, maintenance and procurement/contracts.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS or other 3D modeling and design software packages.
  • A customer service focus and the ability to work within changing situations to meet short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in leading technical services and managing technical projects in functional area including managing complex project responsibility and leveraging partnerships with other leaders.
  • Experience in Work Control is required.
  • Strong grasp of issues related to performing maintenance and operations work in production areas to strengthen the interface between Maintenance and Operations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the division.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mechanical fabrication and assembly experience.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
  • Experience related to programs or research involving isotope enrichment technologies.
  • Experience working under a Quality Assurance Program (NQA-1, ISO9001, AS9100, or similar).
  • Machining and fabrication shop experience.
  • Experience in investigation/analysis of events as well as a broad knowledge of ORNL requirements and processes related to ES&H, production, quality, procurement/contracts, construction/maintenance, and security.
  • Experience with supply chain management.
  • Experience with creating and maintaining manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in a Research & Development and/or testing environment.
