Position Overview


We are in search of an Outpatient Nursing Specialist to join our dedicated team at Texas Children's Hospital. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment.

In this capacity, you will deliver both direct and telephonic nursing care, engage in health education, advocate for patients, oversee and coordinate care provided by others, and manage services necessary for patients beyond the outpatient care context, ensuring that all interactions are suitable for various age groups and developmental stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employs evidence-based assessments and advanced interviewing techniques to gather relevant patient, family, or population-specific information.
  • Creates and continually refines personalized care plans for patients seeking assistance with health promotion, health challenges, or situational health issues.
  • Prioritizes actions and executes the care plan in collaboration with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals promptly.
  • Conducts evaluations and follow-ups on care provided, adjusting based on patient needs, conditions, or requests.
  • Integrates the understanding and involvement of patients' families and caregivers in the care plan.
  • Utilizes ongoing assessment data to modify diagnoses, expected outcomes, and the implementation of care plans as necessary.
  • Demonstrates patient advocacy through effective responses to care-related issues and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Qualifications


All employees at Texas Children's Hospital are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any recommended booster doses, unless a medical or religious exemption is approved.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing with current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement, or a Technical Diploma in Nursing with similar enrollment.
  • Verification of BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is mandatory.
  • Active licensure with the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience is essential.
  • Previous experience in outpatient settings is preferred.
  • Experience with pediatric patients is advantageous.
