Position Summary:
The Surgical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in patient care and the preparation of individuals undergoing surgical procedures. This position involves performing scrub duties and ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of surgical instruments and supplies. The role also encompasses advanced responsibilities, including serving as a preceptor and liaison within the surgical environment.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment in accordance with established protocols.
- Promptly report any breaches in aseptic technique to ensure patient safety.
- Provide necessary instruments, sutures, medications, and sponges to the surgeon during procedures.
- Support the surgical team by retracting tissues and organs as directed by the surgeon.
- Apply electrosurgical current as instructed by the surgeon using the appropriate instruments.
- Conduct surgical counts in collaboration with the registered nurse to maintain accuracy and safety.
- Ensure that all required equipment and supplies are prepared and available for each surgical procedure.
- Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Support the registered nurse with circulatory duties under direct supervision.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Licensure:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) is required.
Minimum Experience:
- No prior experience is required.
