Job Overview

An Athletic Trainer in Care Management is essential in enhancing patient health, preventing injuries, and overseeing the care of individuals, especially those engaged in sports and physical activities. This role requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care management and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Evaluation and Care Strategy:
    • Perform detailed evaluations of patients' physical conditions, concentrating on musculoskeletal injuries and overall wellness.
    • Create personalized care strategies that focus on injury prevention and rehabilitation in partnership with healthcare providers.
  2. Injury Prevention and Patient Education:
    • Develop and execute injury prevention initiatives for active patients.
    • Instruct patients on proper techniques and safety measures to mitigate injury risks.
    • Advise on nutrition and lifestyle choices that enhance health and physical performance.
  3. Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Support:
    • Implement therapeutic exercises and techniques to facilitate recovery and enhance mobility.
    • Track patient progress throughout rehabilitation and modify care strategies as necessary.
    • Work in conjunction with physical therapists to deliver comprehensive rehabilitation services.
  4. Care Coordination and Patient Communication:
    • Act as a bridge between patients and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care.
    • Effectively communicate with patients and families regarding care strategies and progress updates.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, care strategies, and interventions.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations through meticulous record-keeping.
  6. Support for Athletic Teams and Active Individuals:
    • Provide on-site care and emergency response for athletic teams and community events.
    • Design conditioning programs tailored to the unique needs of athletes.
  7. Health Promotion and Community Engagement:
    • Encourage health and wellness through community initiatives and educational workshops.
    • Advocate for healthy lifestyle practices and the significance of regular physical activity.
Qualifications:
  • Certification: Must possess current certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
  • Licensure: State licensure as required.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in athletic training, kinesiology, or a related discipline; a master's degree may be preferred by some employers.
  • Experience: Background in athletic training or sports medicine; experience in care management is advantageous.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Technology Skills: Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare technology.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Capability to establish rapport with patients and motivate adherence to care strategies.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in assessing injuries and adapting treatment plans based on patient progress.
