Role Contribution:
As a Preconstruction Manager in our California Buildings division, you will play a pivotal role in our team by:
  • Formulating winning strategies and fee structures for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Leading the creation of conceptual estimates and design-build bid submissions, particularly for complex projects involving key clients.
  • Establishing strategies to submit budget proposals that safeguard both PCL's and the client's interests.
  • Participating in, and if necessary, spearheading ongoing budget revisions.
  • Monitoring project design development and ensuring working drawings align with budgetary constraints, completeness, constructability, lifecycle considerations, code compliance, and trade-scope integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Completing as-bid estimates and collaborating with the operations team on trade procurement strategies.
  • Building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with owners and design teams.
  • Overseeing multiple project estimates across various clients.
  • Advising management on strategic initiatives and opportunities for pursuit.
  • Engaging in project change management processes and leading negotiations with owners or trade contractors.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
  • A postsecondary degree or diploma in engineering or a related field, or equivalent trade experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating.
  • Experience managing multiple jobs on-site as a risk manager.
  • A proven track record of leading pursuits valued at over $250 million across various delivery models.
  • A strong grasp of contract terms for different delivery models, with the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Experience in fostering relationships and promoting partnerships while taking ownership of design and owner relationships.
  • Proficiency in estimating various scopes and a solid understanding of applicable products and systems.
  • The capability to identify and create opportunities, enhancing project fees and advancing technology and innovation in estimating and preconstruction workflows.
