Position Summary

The Gel Production Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible management of the Gel Department, including the associated warehouse operations. This role requires effective communication with the Site Manager and other personnel regarding departmental matters and the identification of areas for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Report all achievements, challenges, and concerns related to the Gel Department to the Site Manager.
  2. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and policies.
  3. Develop and manage the annual budget for the Gel plant.
  4. Guide Operators to maintain product quality and efficiency while optimizing the use of resources.
  5. Provide technical guidance and emergency response instructions in the absence of the Site Manager.
  6. Direct operators in the safe handling and operation of all equipment related to Xerogel, Hydrogel, and warehouse activities.
  7. Engage in product planning and scheduling for all Gel assets, including various SKUs.
  8. Monitor unit performance, report discrepancies from plans and budgets, and implement corrective actions.
  9. Foster a participative management culture to enhance commitment among plant personnel.
  10. Promote a collaborative work environment.
  11. Collaborate with Union employees and management to establish annual goals.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and safety in all work areas.
  13. Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and corporate policies.
  14. Manage operations to uphold environmental stewardship and community relations.
  15. Actively participate in the plant safety committee.
  16. Champion Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles and Responsible Care initiatives to elevate safety, quality, and production standards.
  17. Exhibit leadership in health, safety, and environmental practices.
  18. Work alongside the maintenance manager to coordinate maintenance activities.
  19. Serve as the management representative for ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications.
  20. Oversee responsibilities as outlined in the Management Systems and PQ Vision.
  21. Lead and engage in EHS, quality, and productivity improvement initiatives.
  22. Support employee development initiatives.
  23. Undertake special projects or additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; advanced degree is advantageous.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the chemical manufacturing sector, ideally within a Unionized environment.
  • At least three years of supervisory or management experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of management systems, including ISO 9001 and RC 14001.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Experience with CQI methodologies, such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma.

EHS Responsibilities:

  • Promote and exemplify safety and health as the top priority.
  • Participate in risk assessment audits as necessary.
  • Understand and implement PQ Principles (PQP) within the site.
  • Complete required HSE training promptly.
