Position Summary:
The Gel Operator is responsible for overseeing the complete operations involved in the production of gels through Xerogel and Hydrogel methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the decontamination and sterilization processes of production equipment.
- Oversee the unloading of bulk raw material shipments and the gel formulation process.
- Conduct washing, milling, packaging, in-process testing, and product storage activities.
- Execute scheduled production tasks and maintain cleanliness and organization in the workspace.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to address equipment malfunctions and assist in repairs.
- When production tasks are complete, assist with other available duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Guide and direct the activities of team members assisting in departmental tasks.
- Ensure adherence to scheduled production rates and maintain product quality within established specifications.
- Document necessary measurements to uphold optimal equipment performance and product standards.
- Collect samples and perform quality control tests, making operational adjustments as needed.
- Deliver samples to the Quality Control Laboratory as required, ensuring proper labeling.
- Conduct thorough inspections of all equipment to confirm proper functionality.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments, promptly reporting major repair needs to the Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety regulations and company policies.
- Complete all mandatory Environmental, Health, and Safety training and be prepared to train others.
- Follow all plant work rules and safety protocols.
- Comply with food-grade operation regulations, including designated eating and smoking areas.
- Accurately complete all production logs and shift handover documentation.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and learn manufacturing processes.
- Capable of working effectively within a small team.
- Willingness to acquire new skills as necessary.
- Ability to assist colleagues in completing required tasks.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with basic mathematical skills.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with computer systems and commercial operating software.
Behavioral & Job Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Additional Information:
- This position is located in a chemical manufacturing facility that operates continuously.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
- Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Eligibility to join the Union.
EHS Responsibilities:
