Role SummaryThe Gel Production Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible management of the Gel Department, which includes warehouse operations. This role requires effective communication with the Site Manager and relevant personnel regarding departmental and plant matters, as well as identifying and addressing areas for improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Report all successes, challenges, and concerns related to the Gel Department to the Site Manager.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and policies.
- Develop and manage the annual budget for the Gel plant.
- Guide Operators to maintain product quality and quantity while optimizing the use of personnel and resources.
- Provide technical guidance to address non-standard and emergency situations, acting as incident commander in the absence of the Site Manager.
- Direct operators in the safe handling and management of all equipment related to Xerogel, Hydrogel, and warehouse functions.
- Engage in product planning and scheduling for all Gel assets, managing multiple SKUs.
- Monitor unit performance, report deviations from established plans and budgets, and implement corrective actions.
- Foster a participative management approach to ensure commitment from all plant personnel.
- Promote a collaborative team environment.
- Work with Union employees and management to establish annual goals.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations, requirements, and policies.
- Manage operations to uphold strong environmental practices and community stewardship.
- Actively participate in the plant safety committee.
- Champion Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles and Responsible Care initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and production outcomes.
- Exhibit leadership in health, safety, and environmental matters, demonstrating commitment to Responsible Care.
- Collaborate with the maintenance manager to oversee maintenance activities.
- Serve as the management representative for ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications.
- Oversee responsibilities as outlined in the Management Systems and PQ Vision.
- Lead and engage in EHS, quality, and productivity initiatives.
- Support employee development initiatives.
- Complete special projects or additional tasks as assigned.
- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; advanced degree is a plus.
- At least five (5) years of experience in the chemical manufacturing sector, ideally within a Unionized environment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience with increasing responsibilities.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- Knowledge of management systems such as ISO 9001 and RC 14001.
- Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Experience with CQI methodologies, including SPC and Six Sigma.
- Promote and exemplify Safety/Health as the top priority.
- Participate in risk assessment audits as necessary.
- Understand and implement PQ Principles (PQP) within the site organization.
- Complete required HSE training promptly.
