Job Description and Duties

As a Public Health Nurse II at the Department of State Hospitals, you will play a critical role in maintaining and implementing infectious disease programs hospital-wide. Your responsibilities will include interpreting public health and infection control standards, conducting epidemiological investigations, and coordinating infectious disease control education for employees and patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and implement infectious disease programs hospital-wide
  • Interpret public health and infection control standards
  • Conduct epidemiological investigations
  • Coordinate infectious disease control education for employees and patients
  • Implement and update infectious disease policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Valid license as a registered nurse in California
  • Valid certificate as a public health nurse in California
  • One year of experience performing the duties of a Public Health Nurse I in the California state service, or
  • Two years of experience as a public health nurse in a generalized public health nursing program, and completion of a university or collegiate program of study approved for public health nursing
Working Conditions:

Face coverings are required while working on-site, and telework opportunities are available at the discretion of the department and manager.

  • Pass a drug screening prior to being hired
  • Clear a background investigation prior to being hired
  • Obtain medical clearance prior to being hired
  • Hold a valid RN license and provide a copy prior to being hired
  • Hold a valid PHN certificate and provide a copy prior to being hired
