We invite you to be part of our team as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer. In this role, you will report to the Control Systems Manager within the Engineering Sciences Organization at GE Evendale.

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will spearhead the design, development, and validation of embedded software for critical flight subsystems that ensure the safe operation of ground and flight test technology demonstrators, while also contributing to the broader business and software strategy for next-generation engine applications.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties
  • Design, develop, and validate embedded software, platforms, and systems that provide real-time control for devices such as fuel controllers, actuators, motors, alternators, engines, valves, and fans. Areas of expertise may include networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases, or applications.
  • Develop embedded engine software in compliance with software plans and industry standards, including DO-178C.
  • Conduct testing of embedded engine software in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable product specifications.
  • Configure and manage computer hardware and I/O boards within embedded systems.
  • Oversee laboratory and field validation testing and data collection for product design and validation.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams supporting assigned projects.
  • Implement strategies to meet technical requirements for assigned components and systems.
  • Develop action plans to address issues and challenges.
  • Participate in teams focused on organizational initiatives and challenges.
  • Recommend approaches to fulfill technical and program requirements.
  • Engage in technical and program reviews, presenting findings and insights.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects in line with engineering policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an embedded software role.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (Citizen or Green Card Holder).
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with tools such as DOORs/ERM, SCADE, MATLAB, SIMULINK, Synergy, SIMICS, and desktop simulation using NPSS.
  • Familiarity with DO-178C and commercial aviation software certification or military software qualification (MIL-HDBK 516C).
  • Proficient in embedded development using C/C++.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management and the full software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with networking protocols, including TCP and UDP.
  • Familiarity with digital communication protocols such as Mil-Std-1553B, ARINC 429, IEEE-1394, ARINC 664, EADIN, and CAN bus.
  • Understanding of multithreading and multicore environments.
  • Knowledge of real-time software development for embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft controls and digital electronic control systems.
  • Experience in requirements documentation and analysis.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical mentorship.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with the ability to influence and guide small teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective problem identification and resolution skills.
