United Surgical Partners International (USPI) is a leading healthcare services organization that operates a vast network of surgical facilities across the nation.

Our extensive care delivery system includes over 480 ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals, along with 58 acute care and specialty hospitals, and a variety of outpatient facilities. As part of our commitment to excellence, we are seeking an experienced professional for the role of Associate Vice President (AVP) Operations. This position is crucial for implementing operational best practices, facilitating the onboarding of new facilities, serving as interim administrator or regional leadership, and overseeing special projects across various locations.

The AVP Operations will work closely with the Market President to execute a strategic pipeline of operational priorities aimed at enhancing USPI's operational effectiveness. Key responsibilities will include driving organic growth, fostering physician engagement, managing partnerships, optimizing operating rooms, and implementing cost management initiatives. A strong commitment to quality, safety, compliance, and patient experience is essential.

In this role, the AVP Operations will provide interim leadership and oversee the operations, finance, and partnership management of facilities experiencing a Regional Vice President vacancy or requiring corporate oversight. This position will also involve guiding the development of assigned centers and executing initiatives to achieve performance goals.

When not serving in interim leadership roles, the AVP Operations will support the integration and onboarding of new facilities into USPI, implement special projects, and address other operational priorities. This exempt position may require work outside of standard business hours, including travel.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The following outlines the primary responsibilities and performance expectations associated with this role:


Growth and Physician Relationship Management:
  • Establish and maintain a strong presence in the region and actively engage in physician recruitment.
  • Develop relationships with physicians to enhance business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Health System Partners and physician groups to optimize case acquisition across all facilities.
  • Participate in Governing Board and Partnership meetings as necessary.
  • Assist Administrators in managing equity transactions and ensuring compliance with processes.
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with physicians regarding succession planning.
  • Maintain transparent communication with Health System Partners about partnership matters.
  • Promote a positive perception of USPI's value to each facility.

Operational Performance Management:
  • Assist Administrators in developing annual business plans and budgets, ensuring accountability.
  • Share business plans with Governing Board members and keep them informed of progress.
  • Lead and participate in monthly performance reporting.
  • Utilize USPI resources to enhance partnership value.
  • Educate facility leaders on operational metrics to drive performance improvements.

Governance and Quality Management:
  • Maintain regular communication with home office compliance and legal resources.
  • Ensure adherence to escalation policies and timely submission of required data.
  • Support Market Chief Strategy Officers in driving high acuity growth.
  • Collaborate with Market Chief Financial Officers to ensure operational discipline.

Leadership Development:
  • Engage with HR to reduce turnover and foster a culture that attracts and retains talent.
  • Provide training on financial management for facility leaders.
  • Identify and assess talent for leadership succession.
  • Create a culture of accountability with clear performance metrics.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration, along with a minimum of five years of experience in healthcare business development, operations, finance, and consulting. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of driving operational performance, developing growth strategies, and possessing strong people management skills.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to engage effectively with C-level healthcare partners, physicians, and staff. Strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and a commitment to quality and compliance are also required. Up to 75% travel may be necessary, and candidates must pass a Motor Vehicle Record check.
