About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions. As a key member of our Fire Protection Engineering Organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of our facilities with various fire protection regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fire Hazard Analysis: Conduct thorough fire hazard analyses to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Code Reviews: Review and ensure compliance with NFPA/ICC codes and regulations.
  • Fire Protection System Design: Specify technical aspects of fire protection systems to ensure Life Safety compliance.
  • Building Walkdowns: Perform building walkdowns to assess compliance with Department of Energy standards.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Mentor and provide direction to less senior engineers within the organization.
  • Technical Task Scoping: Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems.
  • System Utilization: Utilize SRNS systems and meet SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance.
  • Complex Problem-Solving: Accept complex tasks and receive minimal guidance from senior professionals.
  • Engineering Practices: Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features into problem-solving and program planning.
  • Team Leadership: Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
  • Development and Qualification: Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases.
  • Alternate Solutions: Develop alternate solutions to existing problems.
  • Detail Work: Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions.
  • Proposal Evaluation: Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment.
  • Task Delegation: Delegate and manage portions of the detail work to less senior personnel.
  • Cost and Schedule Estimates: Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area.
  • Cost and Schedule Consciousness: Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Documentation: Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort.
  • Patent Disclosures: Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem-solving, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • Knowledge: Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques within Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Engineering Practices: Working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
