Position Overview


Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) is on the lookout for a skilled Electrical and Power Systems Engineer to contribute to various industrial and chemical facilities.

The role encompasses several key areas, including power distribution and facility equipment management.

The Electrical and Power Systems Engineer will undertake a range of engineering tasks focused on the planning, design, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electrical systems.

Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Expertise in distribution systems with voltage levels from 120V to 13.8kV, including transformers and switchgear.
  • Familiarity with electrical National Codes and Standards such as NFPA 70/70E and IEEE.
  • Experience in electrical system protection, including coordination curves, load studies, and arc flash analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical design validation and verification.
  • Knowledge in low and medium voltage systems, including repair designs, calibration, and installation planning.
  • Experience in low to medium voltage industrial power systems ranging from 480V to 13.8kV.
  • Capability to oversee, design, plan, troubleshoot, and maintain low and medium voltage infrastructure, including distribution cables, control systems, protective relaying, transformers, switchgear, substations, breakers, and motor control centers.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation for power systems and short circuit analysis using software platforms (e.g., ETAP).
  • Additional skills may include lighting design, uninterruptible power systems, and various electrical control systems.
The engineer will scope technical tasks and develop innovative solutions to complex problems with minimal supervision.

They will incorporate conventional engineering practices while addressing complicated technical requirements and coordination challenges.

The role includes providing guidance to junior engineering professionals and carrying out development programs alongside design and fabrication tasks to mitigate future issues.

Responsibilities also include evaluating proposals, preparing cost and schedule estimates, and demonstrating a commitment to timely project completion.

In addition, the engineer will prepare technical documentation and demonstrate creativity through patent disclosures and engineering reports.



Desired Qualifications

A Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline is preferred.

Candidates should possess advanced knowledge of standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques within the discipline, as well as a working knowledge of engineering practices and applications.
