About the Custodial Relief Program

The Recreation and Parks Department's Custodial Relief Program is a vital component of our operations, providing temporary custodial support to our citywide facilities. As a member of this program, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities, ensuring that our residents and visitors have a positive experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Maintain the interiors of buildings, facilities, and surrounding areas, ensuring they are clean and free of debris.
  • Operate various cleaning equipment, including scrubbers, buffers, and pressure washers.
  • Remove disposable waste materials from premises and ensure proper disposal.
  • Wash interior glass, wall partitions, and interior and exterior windows.
  • Care for custodian tools, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Secure buildings as required, ensuring the safety of our staff and visitors.
  • Drive large vans and trucks in a safe and responsible manner.
Requirements
  • 6 months (1040 hours) of verifiable paid full-time custodial or janitorial experience at a commercial building or facility.
  • Certificate of completion of a Custodial Training Program equivalent to those certified by the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency.
  • Verification of current enrollment in a custodial training course equivalent to those certified by the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Custodial experience in a public sector or municipal government environment.
  • Completion of a custodial training program with a certificate of completion.
  • 2 years of verifiable experience working as a custodian.
  • Experience providing custodial services to internal and external facilities.
  • Broad knowledge of custodial tools and practices.
  • Bilingual language skills (e.g., English/Spanish, English/Cantonese).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other field staff, supervisors, management, and the general public.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather (e.g., rain).
