Position Overview
Clear Path for Veterans, Inc. (CPV or Clear Path) serves as a pivotal resource center for veterans and their families in Upstate New York. The Peer Mentor plays a crucial role in aiding veterans' reintegration into their communities by linking them with essential programs and services that promote comprehensive warrior care. This position involves providing emotional support and making referrals for veterans facing crises or challenging situations, while also serving as a positive role model.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond with empathy and understanding to inquiries from veterans.
- Address questions from veterans and clients, conducting research as needed to provide thorough and accurate information.
- Assist veterans seeking employment support.
- Collaborate with the Regional Manager to review active cases and manage overflow caseloads as necessary.
- Assess the effectiveness of the Peer Support program by monitoring caseloads, focusing on:
- Evaluating independence in health, financial stability, and housing.
- Tracking progress and adjusting care plans to ensure veterans meet their goals.
- Identify and source potential resources within designated areas, including community, state, federal, health, and social services.
- Represent Clear Path for Veterans at community events, fostering relationships with veterans and approving activities within assigned locations.
- Oversee volunteer participants in the Wingman program.
- Engage in departmental and organizational meetings actively.
- Participate in the hiring process for Peer Support program staff as required.
- Encourage teamwork through regular communication with the Regional Manager.
- Manage financial documentation, including credit card receipts.
- Authorize PTO leave for designated employees.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; preferred in Human Services, Psychology, or a related field, along with a minimum of 1 year of supervisory/advisory experience. Military service is required to understand military culture, with combat experience preferred. OR
- Associate's degree required; preferred in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field, with at least 2 years of supervisory/advisory experience. Military service is required to understand military culture, with combat experience preferred.

Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Willingness to travel within New York State year-round.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Comfort with dogs in the workplace.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to thirty-five (35) pounds and drive in various weather conditions. The role may require prolonged sitting or standing and manual dexterity for frequent computer use. Vision must be sufficient for regular computer monitor use and paperwork review.
