Position Title:

Manager, Talent & Employee Relations

Job Overview:

The Manager of Talent and Employee Relations plays a pivotal role in steering the institution's strategies for talent acquisition, onboarding, and employee retention. This position demands a strategic mindset and a fervent commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace. The individual will cultivate and sustain productive relationships with employees, leadership, and labor organizations while supervising designated HR professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert HR consultation across various domains, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, and labor relations.
  2. Lead and implement HR initiatives that align with the institution's strategic objectives, focusing on enhancing the candidate and employee experience while ensuring diversity in applicant pools.
  3. Act as a primary contact for employee relations matters, offering guidance and support to staff and faculty.
  4. Conduct thorough investigations into employee grievances and recommend suitable resolutions, including conflict resolution and performance management.
  5. Assist in labor relations by engaging with union leadership and overseeing contractual provisions.
  6. Ensure compliance with policies regarding wages, hours, and working conditions as per labor contracts.
  7. Contribute to the planning and execution of HR programs, events, and communications.
  8. Provide leadership and mentorship to HR team members in their roles and projects.
  9. Exhibit emotionally intelligent leadership, fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.
  10. Manage designated budget areas and vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
  11. Deliver training and presentations to diverse audiences.
  12. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  13. Analyze employee data and prepare reports on diversity initiatives, turnover, and recruitment trends.
  14. Facilitate communication across stakeholders regarding the status of services and projects.
  15. Document processes and inquiries effectively.
  16. Participate in internal and external committees as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field.
  2. Five years of progressively responsible HR experience, including talent acquisition and employee relations.
  3. Two years of supervisory or management experience.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS applications.
  5. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  6. Advanced knowledge of employment law and HR policies.
  7. Ability to build cooperative relationships across the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in a related field.
  2. Experience in HR management within higher education.
  3. HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
  4. Experience with change management and HRIS systems.

Physical Demands:

Normal office physical demands with the ability to travel between locations as necessary.

Working Conditions:

Office environment with standard working hours.
